Public trails should remain public at all times, particularly if they are access to Hawaiian landmark sites, such is true on private lands even in our own subdivision. Former council members, Michelle Anderson, stated in a public meeting, that public access to Hawaiian archeological sites shall not be prohibited. Trails were established as such on private lands. I believe there are some archeological sites on the Haleakala trails. Haleakala itself is an archeological site.

I am concerned that private landowners get precedence over access to public trails. The greatest opposition to outdoor recreation in Hawaii is the State of Hawaii. The corruption between the State and Haleakala Hobby Ranch is shocking. It is time for Freedom Hikers to use the Haleakala Trail. Remember, if you are arrested (highly unlikely) the hobby ranch will have to prove you are on their land.

People should be outraged at another effort by DLNR to suppress our use of OUR land and OUR rights. I am tired of the DLNR dictating like a fascist what I can and can't do. I don't like their police state approach and the power grab they are on. Come on citizens, speak up for YOUR liberties. Why email a clerk? We should be pummeling the head of DLNR, BLNR and our LAWMAKERS, not some clerk.

Why are you taking such a weak stance with this? If there was a public trail running through your property when you purchased it, you would probably think differently. That's the case here. This trail existed, and was public, when Haleakala Ranch Company purchased the land in question. I know I would not like a trail passing thru my 2 acres opened to the public. Perhaps those against it have a point.

I support this trail.
